In social and healthcare significant dynamics the influence and comprehension on people's behavior have a significant role in establishing favorable results. Behavior theory is a psychological framework that permits individuals' behavior change facilitation and analysis in the aspect of their lifestyle, especially during challenges identification. An individual’s performing action that is reinforced by negative consequences and natural consequences. This model is used for treating patients to minimize individuals' stress and anxiety while helping to improve their health and well-being.
This portfolio focused on behavior change models' real-time application within the case study of Aliyah. Alia is a Pakistani woman from Manchester Moss side, with an age of 34 years old. She also experiences generalized anxiety disorder complications and adversity of socio-economic constraints. This assignment focuses on discovering Aliyah's condition through the behavior change model, which is helpful in supplying valuable information about the model's weaknesses and strengths while suggesting proper intervention for developing her health.
Review of a behaviour change model and its application to support lifestyle change:
The transtheoretical model has been assisting the elements described in the individual's behavior changes, generating relevance for advocacy individuals' lifestyle transformation. It was established in 1970's by Prochaska and DiClemente to examine people about their capability to quit on negative consequences on their own. This model concentrates on decision development and is also called an intentional change model (LaMorte, 2019). This model functions on individuals' assumptions that reveal that individuals cannot change their behavior in a rapid way. This model of cooperating people goes through 6 change stages such as contemplation, preparation, maintenance, action and termination. In the individual change stage, distinct innovation initiative has a high influence on moving individuals to further change stages to ensure behaviours are the ideal stage (Kleis et al., 2021).

This is the initial stage and in this stage, individuals do not plan to take immediate action in the near future. Often individuals are clues about their problem eating behavior or they have developing negative consequences. In this stage, individuals often undervalue the advantages of behaviour changes and over-emphasize the disadvantages of behaviour change. In the case of Aliyah, her mental state is at this stage. She can be picked off lifestyle changes relevant to her stress, anxiety, health and diabetes (Rahimi et al., 2019). Addressing her cluelessness is essential for significant intervention.
Contemplation
This stage helps people to intend healthy behaviour in the near future. People address their problems in behaviour with the advantages and disadvantages of behaviour changes practical consideration while equally emphasizing both. Even after this recognition, individuals may still be hesitant to change their behavior (Jiménez-Zazo et al., 2020). Aliyah can think about the physical activity incorporation advantage within her daily lifestyle to effectively handle her well-being and anxiety. Understanding this dilemma is important for intervention development.
Preparation
In this stage, people take action within 30 days and begin with small steps to change their behaviour. In this stage, people think their behaviour change can guide them to achieve a healthy life (de Freitas et al., 2020). Through this stage, Aliyah can represent a desire to select proper physical action by adopting small steps to gain a healthier life.
Action
During this stage, individuals change their behaviour and look forward to maintaining this. Individuals may showcase this through problem behaviour modification and healthy behaviour Acquiring (Pennington, 2021). Aliyah can incorporate continuous activity to gain a physically and mentally healthy life via affordable and accessible action that helps to eliminate her challenges.
Maintenance
At this stage, individuals have a mint in their behaviour change for some time and plan to ensure its consistency in future. After having successfully incorporated action Alia can change her lifestyle by boosting her mental strength (Pennington, 2021). During this maintenance reinforcement and proper support is essential.
Termination
At this stage, people do not like to return to their previous life which is based on unhealthy behavior. Due to it being frequently reached and individuals in the maintenance phase, this phase is often disregarded as a healthy promotion event (de Freitas et al., 2020). Aliyah may not fully reach this face due to her health situation and long-term characteristics however she can achieve significant progress.
Strength
- This model helps to address the differences in individual behavior with helps to develop interventions considering these differences.
- This model also provides realistic behavior change progression by addressing regression as a common that permits people's lifestyle nuanced understanding (Pickering, 2023).
- This model is used for large behavior ranges as it has the characteristic of versatility that enhances its adaptability to different groups of people for developing their physical and mental health.
Weakness
- This theory does not consider the social aspect in that changes occur such as income
- The stages line is arbitrary and does not set any limitation of approaches to determine an individual behaviour change stage there is no particular sense about the time required for the individual stage (Imeri et al., 2021)
- This model overassumes people's logical and coherent plan development during decision-making procedures which is not true.
Application of the change model to a lifestyle behavior
Aliyah is experiencing a high level of anxiety and stress due to her financial limitation and resource-limited access which signifies generalized anxiety disorder symptoms. She also has diabetes type 2 and asthma which is a severe health condition requiring a significant initiative to change her lifestyle.
In order to handle aliyah’s health situation there is a need to include continuous exercise to maintain her physical and mental health within her lifestyle.
In this aspect, health belief models can be Incorporated into aliyah's lifestyle to enhance her health. As per the model, the intervention for changing her behaviour can gain effectiveness after recognising susceptibility perception with self-efficacy, advantages and drawbacks (Wong et al., 2021).
Susceptibility perception
Aliyah can find herself susceptible to lead in activity health influence particularly on her health situation. This emphasizes health improvement and exercise connection that can strengthen her susceptibility point of view (Wong et al., 2020).
Advantages
Exercise positive influence reflects her mental health strengthening in that it can help to minimize stress and anxiety while managing asthma and sugar in her blood (Carico et al., 2020). Through this weekend she gained a healthy lifestyle by boosting her mental health to engage in continuous exercise.
Drawback
Her time boundation and financial limitations can create drawbacks for gaining health and life. In order to eliminate this challenge she needs to tell her intervention with drawbacks and establish a minimum budget exercise that also provides a minimum time routine (Wong et al., 2020). Through this she can gain her adherence likelihood.
Efficacy enhancement
Through this initiative, she can gain confidence to maintain regular exercise in her daily routine that can enhance her capability to quickly achieve her goal. By developing a particular objective and continuous progression through this initiative she can also destroy the barrier of social distance that can boost her self-efficacy.
The basic principle of person-centred care in promoting health outcomes
In the case of Aliyah, the recognition of social challenges such as social distance, divorce, single parent and financial limitation needs a significant person-centred initiative that incorporates people's specific requirement of acknowledgement and helps them to engage in decision development (Carico et al., 2020).
This initiative helps to understand the limitation of finance in the case of Aliyah. Acknowledging the understanding a proper recommendation such as low budget exercise engaging in community activity can be provided. Additionally, the background also poses a significant role in the aspect of cultural consideration. In order to gain social support there is a need to increase the point of view of cultural aspects during the development of intervention that can help to increase approaches effectiveness (Ritchie et al., 2020). Additionally, the intervention needs to be adaptable in considering her single-parent context. Supplying proper friendly circumstances and support for her child care can help her to gain quick recovery from anxiety and mental stress.
Difficulties experienced while implementing the behavioural change
Aliyah can possess limitations in time for regular exercise as she has the responsibility of single parenting. Additionally, women's divorce aspect and single mother role can create challenges in the aspect of cultural belief. On the other hand, her limited access to financial aspects can create a challenge to buy proper equipment for her exercise (Azadi et al., 2021). In order to eliminate this there is a need to establish an intervention that helps to engage her in community activity and provide low-budget exercise that helps her to gain quick recovery from mental and physical challenges.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it can be stated that the portfolio focused on the TTM model application and health belief model implication in the aspect of Aliyah. She is a Pakistani 34-year-old woman experiencing mental stress, and anxiety with diabetes type 2 and asthma. The TTM model helps to supply a significant understanding of the future of Aliyah by incorporating this model. After incorporating this model she can gain health and well-being through small steps. Additionally, the TTM model provides information for identifying her point of view, self-efficiency and drawbacks considering her financial and social aspects. The principle based on person-centred care provides information about her gaining a significant lifestyle through community engagement and regular exercise. Moreover, this assignment highlights a significant initiative approach including person-centered care and cultural engagement to provide proper support to people such as Aliyah to gain a positive and healthier lifestyle
