Assignment 1- Skills Demonstration One

Section 1

The age of the child is three years old who needs help in doing daily activities. He needs care and special attention. What other children can do he is not able to do in one go. He needs support and attention from his teachers, parents, and fellow mates in learning, doing and applying things. He is not able to do things alone, he needs someone with him. The areas in which he needs support are communication, eating with other children, playing with other children, tolerance, and grouping with others.

The child's ability to complete the task in my view is related to analyzing the task first and then performing it. Analyzing or figuring out the task leads to planning which is important according to me. Second, comes the setting up of the goal, he needs to set up the goal of the task he wishes to reach by the determined time. He needs to adjust all his actions according to the task and his ability to perform. This is called the process of self-analyzing. In this case, he is able to complete the task on time perhaps his disabilities in my opinion.

Section 2

In the context of my collaboration with the teacher and the child is focused more on effective learning which includes both reading as well as writing. Both these activities will make his communication skills and letter recognition stronger as he lacks in this. In my viewpoint, books which consist of poems, stories, and drawings should be provided to him in order to make him active. Also, for the paired reading activity books related to wildlife, communication, math, English, and gaming should be provided to him so that these books will help in his speaking and reading (Lampos, et. al, 2021). Also, he loves to play puzzles, jigsaw, etc. These types of books should be available to him by his teachers and parents.

Section 3

Everything Kid's Puzzle Book is the perfect book for the paired reading activity. This book is perfect because the child's interest lies in solving puzzles, jigsaws, and others. These books have poems so when he cries his teachers start reciting the poems as he loves to listen to poems and songs. On the other hand, the language used in this book is simple, easy and readable. The child is able to understand the wording of the song or poem. In this way, his communication skills will become better. The book also has some mind games which enhance the mind of a kid. The puzzles and jigsaws help the child to become sharper like the other child in his school so this book is appropriate to use in my opinion.

Section 4

Paired reading activity is very helpful in the primary school curriculum. As these activities are important for learning because it mainly targets literacy, reading and speaking skills. These activities generally target teamwork, collaboration, empathy and listening & understanding of partners assigned together (Johnson, 2021). Teachers and parents can easily see the progress of the child in learning lessons through this activity. I expect that the learning outcome that he is going to achieve from doing this activity is that this activity will help him build confidence inside him which he lacks in communication with other children. In accordance with me, paired activity will result in improving reading fluency by making him more comfortable in speaking. The imagination and visualization of the child will boost as his interest in reading will increase because the books chosen for paired activity includes plays, poems and poetry. The interaction between him and his other fellow mates will become easy through this activity.

Section 5

The preparation required for me in the beginning the activity is learning, reading, and understanding the child's needs. I cannot begin with the activity without understanding the need of the child. With understanding it becomes easier for the teacher and parents to plan activities accordingly so that their child will enjoy such things. Secondly, I has to understand the impact of the activity on the child. What I believe is that the impact the following activity will have on the child is important for planning and proceeding (Pimentel, 2022). Another very important thing is whether the books that they are using for the paired activity are appropriate or not is the responsibility of both parents and me to evaluate them before exploring the activity with the child. I and other staff should also prepare the materials that we are going to use in the activity. A meeting should be scheduled for teachers and parents so that they both can decide tighter what activities they should implement for the child's fast progress.

Section 6

The equipment and tools that are being used will be safe and hygienic for the children is my responsibility. For ensuring this I and my staff members have to encourage hand washing timely so that diseases like coughing, sneezing, etc. will remain away from them. Using sanitisers, soaps, tissues, towels, etc. will promote hygiene among children (Syriopoulou-Delli and Eleni, 2022). Regularly cleaning toys and equipment before giving them to children will help in maintaining a clean environment. On the other hand, in my perspective giving children a noise-free and pleasant environment where they will able to roam freely, play, run, and have good light, enough space, etc. will build a warm atmosphere for the children and they will love to come there.

Section 7

It is the responsibility of me and the parents to design such activities that are useful in a child's skill demonstration development. Humble talking to the child when he feels low, singing songs, and reciting poems in front of him is essential for better implementation of the paired activity in my view. The reading activity was designed to him will help with his vocabulary, conversation, and reading skills. It becomes better to talk to the child, understand his basic needs, his abilities, and his weakness. As a teacher my duty towards him will be focused on reciting with the child in order to make him rhyme and connect his feeling with the word.

Section 8

The benefits that the child will get from the paired reading activity according to me are effective communication skills and interactions with other children (Marni, et. al, 2022). As he is afraid regarding talking to others with the paired reading activity his fear will go out. This exercise will help him develop the self-assurance he needs to communicate with other kids, which is the educational benefit that he will get from performing it in my observance. He will talk more confidently as a consequence of the partnered exercise, which will enhance his reading proficiency. Due to the fact that the works of literature selected for the partnered exercise contain literary works, plays, and verse, the kid's creativity and ability to visualize will grow as his enthusiasm for reading rises. With this exercise, he will be able to engage with his other teammates with ease I will make sure of that.

Section 9

I learned about the child is that he is very sharp, skilful, and active when comes to solving puzzles and jigsaws. He is good to others in behaviour but he likes to remain alone. He is a shy kind of person who likes to remain in his own company rather than talking to others or having friends. He did not like working in a noisy environment for that reason he used to enjoy himself and he avoids playing with others. But a good environment will encourage him to talk to others and enjoy with one another. As a teacher my learnings through the role of an SNA is lined with communication and integration between child and teacher (Lorah, et. al, 2022). Making children develop effective skills is the responsibility of an SNA practitioner.

Section 10

The importance of paired reading is related to togetherness, collaboration, and peer instruction is all supported by shared reading among children. For the reason of gauging understanding, it enables children to switch off studying while offering one another comments. Paired reading results in the creation of fun-loving activities among children and they enjoy it thoroughly. On another side, the importance of promoting independence among children is important because as a result, the child becomes more in charge of their own affairs and develops independent thinking. It instils in the child the feeling of worth and identity that is necessary for forming friendships while making a difference in their community and peers.

Section 1

The child is three years of age-old. To complete daily tasks, the youngster needs assistance. He demands particular care and therapy. He is unable to complete tasks in one sitting as other kids can. The needs assistance and consideration from his instructors, parents, and friends in order to learn, do, and apply the stuff. He needs assistance since he is unable to do tasks on his own. He needs assistance in the following areas: communicating, participating in social events, interacting with his peers, dining with them, and tolerating their differences. As his teacher and parents' collaboration is more heavily weighted toward successful learning, which involves written and spoken communication. His communication abilities and ability to recognize letters will improve as a result of the act of reading and writing, both of which he lacks. For him to become more active, books with poetry, tales, and illustrations should be given. He ought to be introduced to technologies by his teachers, parents, and other adults in addition to reading. His intellect will become brighter as well as more engaged with the help of digital texts. My informal observation is that the current care routine or the daily activities of the child are not modified in any other way. The current care is not moulded by him in any way this is the advantage of informal observations (Rasheed, et. al, 2021). His daily activities are observed by his teacher which helps them in evaluating him.

Section 3

The ultimate goal of applying PECS in a child's learning and development will promote his autism and self-initiating ability. Firstly through simple icons, PECS help the child in learning and then make them build a sentence. But it is difficult to use PECS and sign language together for him as it will increase difficulty in communication. On the other side, Lámh is used to support the conversation (Giangreco, 2021). Singing is used in Lámh which becomes easy to communicate. Lámh is used by the child because he is suffering from a disability in communication. AAC options are used when communication needs are not fulfilled by writing, speaking, and delayed speech. AAC includes gestures, signs, images, and electronic gadgets.

Section 4

I think that the AAC option strategy is the most suitable strategy that can be used with this particular child. The reason behind adopting this strategy in my view is that the child can easily express his needs. He can engage easily and can communicate with others. Frustration in communication can be overcome with this practice. Some challenges like chatting, speaking, and the child's behavior in communication can be reduced with effective conversation. With AAC he will develop clear communication ahead of his disability. Continuation of using AAC depends on the child's strengths and weaknesses. That's what I feel for using this strategy.

Section 5

The best practice to support the child in clear communication can be done with the use of signs and gestures. He needs extra time in processing the information, so the teacher has to give him a little extra time to understand. Asking the child, again and again, will give an idea to the teacher if he is comfortable or not. Another practice that the teacher can do is using bigger texts. The usage of bullet points in big font can be useful in conversation. The practitioner can create a positive and safe atmosphere for the child so that he can build effective relationships with his peers.

Section 6

Studying, consuming literature, and comprehending the requirements of the kid are prerequisites before the task can be started. As a teacher I need preparation in first grasp the child's needs before they can start doing something? I and parents will find it simpler to design exercises to ensure the kid can appreciate them as a result of his increased comprehension (Hester, et. al, 2020). The second need is that I comprehends how the task at hand will affect the student. Planning and moving forward need knowing the effects that the next action is going to have on the kid. Engagement and familiarity will increase with the child when the practitioner will spent more time with him. The process regarding the paired activity should be clear with him as he is not able to talk. I should clearly define the idea behind the activity planned in sign language so that he could relate to and understand it. Defining the use of any kind of technology in the activity like phone, or tablet instructions should be given to him properly before he uses it.

Section 7

The implementation of a care routine is a success of good communication between me and him. Using handbooks, electronic gadgets, and other communication methods are implemented during the care routine. The communication between me and him includes working with the child and also working with the administration of the school. Implementing good communication in the care routine overcomes the challenges of misconception, unethical practices, etc. For better caring of him, encouragement is needed for the improved corporation (Pugach, et. al, 2020). For interaction with parents as well as staff members, daycare managers ought to use a combination of spoken and written communication and electronic means.

Section 8

Apart from using the AAC options strategy, I has also used the Lámh strategy also in the care routine. When schools and daycare are closed during a holiday the child can practice communication using Lámh. As Lámh provides free access to its signs the child can use it at his home also. More than 580 Lámh signs are available virtually that can be used as a temporary solution to the problem. The availability of signs like space, clean, hand wash, etc. makes easy access for the child and parents. This also includes videos which the parents can show to the child. In this way, Lámh can be useful in a different way.

Section 9

When it comes to jigsaw puzzles and other types of puzzles, the boy is highly intelligent, skilled, and energetic according to me. While acting well toward others, he prefers to be by himself. Because he is a timid person, he prefers to be alone and avoids making new acquaintances or chatting with individuals. For this reason, he used to have fun while not interacting with his peers because he disliked being in noisy conditions (Dodge-Chin, et. al, 2022). However, he will be inspired to interact and have fun in a positive setting. What I feel is that the interaction and the relationship between me and him are key components of the SNA's teaching methods. It is my duty as an SNA practitioner to ensure kiddos acquire useful skills.

Section 10

The importance of care routine is when children become more independent and capable to manage their own things. This in turn highlights the value of autonomy promotion in children (Khamidova, 2021). It gives the kid the self-worth and sense of personality they need to make connections and have an impact on their fellow students and neighborhood. Another reason is that he is not able to talk he uses sign language for communication a proper care routine will make him self-confident and self-esteem. Independent development, encouragement, and fostering will be promoted via the current care routine.

The role and responsibility of an SNA in my knowledge are not only related to children but also it is related to collaborating with the class teacher and principal so that they all can create a safe and healthy working environment for the children. For becoming an SNA education is important in the area of special needs so that they can handle children. There is a huge responsibility as an SNA because they have to efficiently handle all the SEN children with care so that nobody can feel uncomfortable (Frizelle and Lyons, 2022). The tasks included evaluating kids' skills, creating personalised learning initiatives, keeping track of advancement, and working with mothers and other teachers in my view.

My experiences involved in working with the children are that they have their own learnings and experiences which teach an SNA in working efficiently. These children have their own weaknesses and strengths which help them to fight and recognise what thing is good & bad for them. Working with such children has put a great effect on the thinking of society as a whole. Passion, assistance, and enthusiasm are essential for every kid, but especially for kids with trouble with learning, these types of beneficial reinforcement can assist guarantee they'll grow to have an overwhelming sense of worth, trust in themselves, and the will to persevere regardless of the face of challenges.

Without first knowing the child's needs, I cannot start the activity. With comprehension, it is simpler me and parents to organize activities that their children will like. The expertise, and ability required to do an activity is called skill. As an SNA, I used these skills in my working that are necessary in practical, communication, and interpersonal skills. Skills are sometimes referred to as the quality of a person which mainly includes patience, empathy, observance, confidence, honesty, respect and dependability.

Communication skills are important because it helps in building relationship with the children. It encourages understanding between two persons. Example of using these interpersonal communication skills help in promoting teamwork and social interaction between colleagues, and supervisors. For assisting the children with clothing, organizing, feeding, and hygienic practical skills are used.

Patience is the most important thing required for an SNA. It refers to the time and wait that I put for an activity to happen or for an individual. Respect defines the ability of an individual to accept others in the way they are. It builds trust and feelings among the person. To remain watchful every time is called observance (DeMatthews, et. al, 2020). As an SNA my ability is to observe people around them and ensure that the children are behaving well.

In my opinion those distractions and emotional barriers that exist become a challenge in communication. Irrelevant and incorrect results are derived when communication is not proper. Thus it is a major threat according to me. Another challenge is the difference between skills and qualities. Skills are gained while qualities are in-built between us.

As an SNA my interpersonal skills are required in this role. It helps in my work, collaborating with other people, building relations, interaction, and helping children with their needs. Learning includes the role of empathy used in providing facilities to others. Empathy lightens ups the feelings which someone has for another so that they can do their best for that person.

In my understanding inclusive education is implemented by tasks and activities which promote corporative learning. The rate of participation increases when children perform in groups. Training & workshop related to inclusion can help in acquiring techniques used for integration and strategies in my work. Areas such as awareness, autism, etc. can be improved with training. It also helps me in evaluating the children (Curtis, et. al, 2022). As an SNA my job is to promote equality among all children. The core value of equality is reflected when I treats equally and protects children from bullying, discrimination, and harassment. Also, the comparison of children is bad exercise and as an SNA it does not suits me and I should prevent this.

The relevant legislations include EPSEN Act- which emphasizes on providing education to children with SEN (Special Educational Needs) with those children who are with no special needs. On the basis of Disability Act, education and health facilities should be easily accessible for children with SEN. It also promotes social inclusion and equality.

My understanding of the rights of children with disabilities is considered within support and service. The former includes access to food, access to personal needs, access to clothing, and access to learning aids (Bin Nordin, et. al, 2020). The latter includes recreational services, medical needs, mobility & orientation, and counselling. These all are provided to SEN children by SNA practitioners which is my job. Here are examples of support and services provided by me to the children.

• Medical services- This activity involves the medication given to children who are in need and faces some disability in education.
• Counselling services- These refer to the positivity and hope given to children in overcoming their challenges. This helps the children to cope with their disabilities and motivates them to face the challenges confidently.
• Recreational services- Activities like exploring, swimming, gaming, etc. are leisure activities. These activities help the children to relax, feel comfortable, and get relief from their hardships.
• Mobility & orientation services- To solve the problem of movement these activities like mobility and navigation in the environment around the children are used. It helps in creating a safe atmosphere for the child.
• Personal need provision- Providing things which are required in day-to-day life like toothpaste, toothbrushes etc are beneficial for SEN children.
• Clothing- Clothing is obviously required. With proper clothing, one can improve their well-being and physical condition which enables them to avoid any bad thoughts occurring in their minds which could affect their behavior.

My personal learning and new skill development include the knowledge gained by working with SEN children. The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) is one area of learning. NCSE helps children in getting their education done at the right place and right time. NCSE also provided support to not only children but their parents and teachers. SENO in collaboration with NCSE provides children with education and resource facilities. This knowledge is important for understanding the functionality of NCSE in the role of an SNA is what I have experienced. Encouraging the well-being of SEN children, their importance in society, understanding their future needs, etc. all is required in planning the activities (Carroll, et. al, 2021).

My learning practice is applied into understanding the important concepts which demonstrate the ability of decision-making, information, and future practices. Theory practice is also used in the growth and critical thinking of the activities done for SEN children.

Key elements of the SNA's teaching strategies in my viewpoint include interactivity and the connection between the teacher and the student. The responsibility of an SNA specialist in my perspective is to guarantee that children learn practical skills. The instructor becomes aware of their responsibility to look out for a pupil as a consequence of using their application, spontaneity, execution, invention, and comprehension abilities. The child gains the feeling of individuality and self-worth necessary to form relationships and make a difference in their school and neighborhood as well as their peers.

According to me collaboration within a team is important when working together. Success, innovation, and effective communication take place with collaborating in a team. Teamwork, collaboration, and confidence lead to balance between each other, generate support, and appreciation efforts and promote mutual understanding.

In my understanding the policy and legislation help the children to learn better by engaging them and making them feel comfortable that they are also the same as other children. The legislation policies are designed in a way that brings easy access to all the basic needs of children who are facing disability. These children with special needs need special care and attention which the policies give them. Also, these policies promote social inclusion in society in my judgment which ensures that children are getting equality and opportunity from the outside world.
