Introduction
Decision-making is a choice where experience with skill is needed to make the situation within control and manage the circumstances in a skillful hand. It has several fields to adopt such practices and Nursing is one of those fields and has been discussed further in this context. Decision-making in nursing is required to evaluate the process and maintain the system properly. It is a department where emergency decision-making is manipulated to handle an organization in an acute moment. A nurse has to handle 5 to 6 patients at the same time and has to make decisions within 30 to 40 seconds as such an organization is concerned with critical care. The emergency department of any medicinal organization is to be maintained properly as it is concerned with health issues that need urgent actions to be taken. The training departments of nurses should maintain adequate ways to give training to those participants as the further time they will be freed to perform in a department of urgent participation and have to make decisions within seconds. Proper management and strategies are required to be taken thus the health organizations can provide their services in a productive way so that those departments can be developed further. The procedure involved in it is also highlighted in the next portion of this report with suitable references. Nursing decision making is a segment where many experiments would be done to make the procedure of those practices can be developed to design a better performance of the organization. Many types of research should be carried out to perform the practices more preferable and to get productive outcomes. More than 98000 people die of poor decision-making every year and this is a huge number that describes poor handling of critical care and decision making regarding those issues.
Paper 1: Quantitative analysis of Nursing knowledge and Decision-making
Authors & title
Title
A quantitative study on personnel’s experiences with patient handovers between the operating room and the postoperative anesthesia care unit before and after the implementation of a structured communication tool
Authors:
Ann-Chatrin Leonardsen, Ellen Klavestad Moen, Gro Karlsøen, Trine Hovland
Research aims or questions
The research concerning the topic is carried out by making some practices and targets the questionnaires regarding the following research.
- How to resolve the problems concerning the practices of decision-making?
- How to face the situation of critical care time regarding this research?
- How can the procedure be carried out for the better performance of decision-making in medical organizations?
Setting or context
The study regarding this topic has been carried out in a hospital situated in London where the sample testing of this research has been done. The circumstances are also made to favor the research and to find the faults in their functioning.
Participants
The healthcare staff including nurses, hospital attendants, and other personnel is set to conduct the research and they were asked several questions regarding critical care and decision making randomly. According to their answers, this research has been successful and they also know the current scenario of that hospital to handle the critical care and decision making when an urgent call would arrive.
Methods
The methodology depending on the decision-making of the nurses can be carried out by taking some samples that can be tested through this research. The ISBAR tool is used to represent the data regarding this test. Some parameters have also been taken to conduct the test (Campbell, et.al. 2021). The most performed practice is hand overing the patient and it has been depicted as the wrongly accomplished out of all the practices. It experiences a negative result on this impact. The handovering staff may use the ISBAR graph to practice its performances and it is shown that 91% of handovering is done by this method.
Main findings
The research regarding nursing knowledge and decision making is computed here in a quantitative way so that the mathematical representation of data-based practice would further make sure to understand the test concerning the topic involved therein. To make the research more prudent and efficient so that the practitioner of pre-medical qualification. And the experienced attendants would develop the procedure of managing such organization better than an inexperienced one. The organizations which provide proper training of the nurses and the hospital attendants should maintain their standards so that the trained personnel would be able to take a significant instance decision to handle the contingency in their respective departments. The healthcare attendants use the ISBAR tool to improve the handovering procedure and to maintain the quality and safety of patients (D’Souza, Arjunan and Venkatesaperumal, 2017). The interchanging of departments of the patients is also carried out by using this tool and this transaction is easy to perform after using technologies in those sectors.
Strengths
In the context of this research, it can be stated that the hospitals are always ready to conduct the practices of decision making at the crucial time. Attendance and punctuality are the main key features of such exercises where time is the most significant thing to maintain hospitality. The main strength of this regard is to handle any contingency at any time and also provide nice hospitality to the patients and treat them all in a simultaneous manner. Another significant strength of this decision-making and critical care department is to use ISBAR technology to smoothen the exercise and most importantly to perform it without error (Fallon et al. 2020).
Limitations
The study which has been conducted earlier and the data of the tests shown that the pre-medical qualification of the nurses and other personnel are lacking knowledge in some fields where experiences of different types of case handling are more or less for those attendants and due to this reason sometimes the improper decision making may regress the health issue of the patient. In addition, the practices have been conducted in a hospital so that the generalized result regarding this issue is not confronted here (Hidayat and Uliyah, 2018). In this research, the problems and oversight have been redacted due to the lack of communication of those personnel and resulting in a worse handovering.
Paper2: Qualitative Analysis of Nursing Knowledge and Decision-making
Authors & title
Title: An analysis of delegation styles among newly qualified nurses
Authors: Magnusson C, Allan H, Horton K, et al.
Research aims or questions
The research regarding the decision making and accomplishing nursing knowledge is discussed in this chapter that is a qualitative analysis of this concerned topic. It targets some questionnaires to justify the research.
- What are the problems related to decision-making in an organization?
- What are the solutions to get better hospitality in contrast to decision-making?
Setting or context
The qualitative approach of this research is carried out in three hospitals in London by testing the samples on which the research is associated to move forward. The circumstances are set to make the testing of this research but it experiences a huge expense (Johnsen, et al. 2018). The research is done by taking three parameters related to the questions to depict the actuality of the test.
Participants
In this context, the sample testing is carried out to ask random questions to the newly experienced nurses about how to face some emergencies and to explore the functioning of the organization to a new horizon (Park, 2021). They are asked to handle contingencies in some challenging moments that have been given as a sample to continue the test.
Methods
The methodology involving the deputation among the freshly qualified nurses is carried out to explain the decision making in challenging situations and what they learn from this test and it targets the further improvising about managing the situation in a hospital (Kapucu, 2017). In addition, the training authorities are also responsible to prepare the skill of those participants to handle the contingency and apply the skill in the future. The practices that have been done in those hospitals are highly highlighted to explore the experiences that they acquired during their training session (Santos, et al. 2018). This also helps to observe the standards of those participants. The observations from the tests would be polarizing in nature to amplify the recommendations of those weak purposes or negative test-related outcomes.
Main findings
The main findings of this research target the ability of those nurses to handle any urgent call by the management and to perform it successfully. There are many delegation styles involved therein. Those are "the do-it-all nurses", the buddy, the justifier, the role model, the inspector, and they are mainly categorized in such away. The first category is associated with those who have done all their jobs and the second one wants to be friends with all. The justifiers are always busy justifying them all and the inspector category is directed to inspect others' jobs (Singh and Estefan, 2018). Such delegations are available in this research briefly as the main aim is to perform those delegations in a proper way. The qualitative analysis of this test is performed to represent a model to get a better approaching towards the attainment of suitable decision making as the situation demands.
Strengths
The main strength of this research is to highlight the issues that are shown in the test. The decision-making capability of those newly trained nurses is quite good as per their daily schedule of work. This is due to the organized training from their esteemed institution. They are also trained to handle urgent circumstances but often they face a tough situation and it also lacks their experiences to perform in a constitutional way together. The organizational way is to perform the drawbacks of their delegates and also find the fault of their activities. In addition, the handovering of patients from one department to another can be performed correctly only in an organizational way.
Limitations
Along with the strengths of decision-making knowledge, some problems have to be faced. The working of the attendants in a rhythmic way can perform the tasks easily and efficiently. But lacking an organizational framework in their training session as well as in a working institution may regress the standards of the concerned authorities.
Conclusion
In this chapter, a proper conclusion of the whole paradigm can be depicted and the recommendation of the tests that have been carried out to get better results from the concerned authorities. In this regard, the outcomes of the quantitative analysis may draw the attention of those authorities to adopt a better strategy for the critical care and nursing departments. The department compiles many other sub-departments to justify the practices properly. Those sub-sectors are also to be handled properly as the quantitative analysis requires more sharp and nit outcomes to understand the function regarding such critical care. From the qualitative analysis, it can be concluded that the test results may discuss the whole system to display the processes regarding this topic and to understand the fundamental of the research to make the system perfect and to be performed with fewer threats and weaknesses so that better performances are to be practiced. The urgent actions required departments like nursing or any medicinal sectors need a skillful hand to maintain the management of the organizations as sometimes it is seen that public arguments are increasing day by day and the patient party becomes hard to handle in a critical time. So, experience and also adequate knowledge is required to answer all the arguments of the patient parties and not to bring any obstacles to the management department. It may regress the health issues of the other patients and also such accidents bring fuel to fire. Such incidents are also heard in some places and proper management and effective decision-making of nurses and other attendants of the concerned organization help to take the situation within control. More research and exploration are required to get better performance of the medicinal organizations and betterment in decision making of nurses.
