Introduction to Human Resource Management Assignment

For the business to be successful it is very necessary that people or the human resource must be managed in effective and efficient manner. The reason underlying the fact is that without human resource the company cannot work and keeping them happy and safe is very necessary. The current study is based on reflecting on week 2 of the seminar. The reflection relating to the week will be evaluated and then will be linked with the theories and concepts studied within the week and their application within real life as well.

Main Body

The second week included a discussion relating to organizational behaviour and working within groups and teams. This week stated that organisational behaviour is very important to be followed within the company. This is necessary for the reason that organizational behaviour includes the study of people within the company so that they perform all the tasks effectively and the objectives of the company are attained (Azizi and et.al., 2021). With the help of week 2, it was clear that managing people within the company is very important as without it no work can be accomplished. Hence, as a result of this, the overall objective of the business will not be attained. Thus, it is the responsibility of the company that they provide a good working environment to the employees so that they can work in a better and more effective way.

With the help of the study, I learnt that there are different types of models relating to organizational behaviour which can be used to manage people. These models include autocratic, custodial, supportive and collegial models. With the help of I evaluation, I felt that the use supportive model will be helpful for the companies. For example, IKEA is a multinational company working in the retail sector that needs to comply with the supportive model. This is pertaining to the fact that within this model, leadership focuses on providing support to the employees so that they can work in a better and more effective way.

The week also outlined that for the companies to analyse and understand the individual behaviour of the people working in the company. This is very necessary for the reason that every person is different and it is very necessary that individual behaviour is studied well so that work can be managed better (Triana and et.al., 2021). Also theories and models of organizational behaviour assist Ikea in managing the employees well and keeping them happy and satisfied. Also, when many people are involved then the work is also done by making a team of people. This is very necessary for the company as team working will provide much better and good results. This is pertaining to the fact that when people work together on a single aspect then it results in the work being accomplished in a more accurate manner.

Also, it was evaluated that effective team working can only be successful in case the team formation is correct. This is pertaining to the fact that when the team will be formulated with good employees then it will result in better working as collective work is implemented. For the making of the team, Ikea undertakes the use of the Tuckman team development theory (Valecha, 2022). This model includes 4 different stages that are forming, storming, norming and performing. With this model, I learnt that every stage is very important to be followed in an appropriate way. This is pertaining to the fact that every stage is important. For example, in forming stage people are gathered and in case Ikea selects a person who is not good then it will affect the working of the company to a great extent. With the help of the week, it was clear that Ikea also need to focus on making teams by considering the multicultural concept. This is very necessary for the company as employees are recruited from diverse cultures and complying with all these cultures is very important to keep the employees happy and motivated.

Further, week 2 also highlighted that focusing on organizational culture, politics and power is also very necessary. This is pertaining to the fact that all these elements make the organization and these need to be followed in the correct way. With the help of the week, I learnt that Edgar Schien level of culture model is helpful for Ikea in managing the culture within the company (Atkinson and et.al., 2022). This is probably because the reason that it has three stages which are artefacts, values and beliefs and assumptions. All these elements need to be worked for maintaining a good culture within the company. Further, I also analysed that power and politics also need to be managed effectively so that culture can be managed well. The politics need to be minimum within the company as it creates a negative impact on the working of the business. Hence, for this, the power needs to be used proficiently so that it does not affect the politics within the company.

The week also highlighted that leadership is important to manage human resources within the company. The reason underlying the fact is that leadership guides and direct the employees that how they have to perform their task (Stewart and Brown, 2019). During the week I learnt that there are different types of leadership theories which can be used like trait approach, functional, contingency theory, charismatic leadership, distributed leadership and many others. With regard to Ikea the use of distributed leadership will be more beneficial. This is pertaining to the fact that it includes shared management wherein every person is responsible for the effective management of work.
