Introduction of Project and Operations Management Assignment Sample
Project management may be stated as the process through which different knowledge and methods are applied for attaining the goals of the project. It is very necessary for the company they must try to accomplish all the group goals so that the project is completed in the intended manner. The current project is based on ABC Tech which is presently located in Shoreditch. Currently, the company is facing the challenge of space as it cannot accommodate the increasing workforce. Thus, the project is of relocating its office premises and the team is also expanding by 50 employees.
The major characteristic of the project includes that every project is unique and the uniqueness of this project is that office relocation needs to be undertaken. Another characteristic of the current project is that the project undergoes a lifecycle which includes initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control (Project management basics, 2023). When the project undergoes all these stages then it is prepared in a proper and effective manner. Within the completion of the project, the project manager plays a crucial role. This is particularly because of the reason that it is the responsibility of the project to delegate all the activities and plan the whole project completion process. This is very necessary because the project manager decides the chain of command and all activities which need to be completed for attaining the objectives of the project.
Along with the project manager, it is very necessary that appropriate methodology is used by the manager for accomplishing the goals of the project. This is very necessary because in case the method selected will not be appropriate then completion of the project will not be undertaken properly. The project methodology selected is Waterfall model. This is a methodology which includes the use of breaking down the project activities into some sequential steps which guide the employees to work effectively on the project. This methodology is used by ABC Tech as it assists in systematically completing the project phases one by one.
MAIN SECTION
Initiation stage
This is the first stage of the project management lifecycle wherein the idea is being generated for the project. In this stage the idea of project is generated and in present case the project idea is of relocating the office space for increasing employees (Lock, 2020).
Project charter
The project charter is defined as formal short document which outlines why the project is initiated and its goals and objectives along with the resource requirement. This is a brief overview of the whole project that is from start to finish. It includes a brief discussion of the scope, schedule, budget, deliverables and all the other related elements.
Identify stakeholder
A stakeholder is defined as a person or group of people who are interested in the working of the company and are affected by the outcome of the company’s performance. For the effective working of the company, it is very necessary that stakeholders are kept happy and satisfied (Nicholas and Steyn, 2020). The reason underlying the fact is that when the stakeholders will not be happy then they will not be working effectively and as a result of this the objectives of the project will not be attained well. The different stakeholders identified in the current project of relocating are employees, Transport Company, consumers, HR team, line manager, furniture and IT vendor, office space relator and many other different types of people who are interested in working on the project.
Planning stage
This is the second stage in which all the stages of the project are planned. In case effective planning is done then the performance of the project will be accomplished in a better manner. The planning stage includes the following steps for the effective completion of the project.
Project requirement
This is defined as the step in which the requirement of the project is discussed. This is very necessary for a project manager to list all the requirements of the project in much clear manner. This is very necessary for the reason that when the requirements will be clear then this will assist in successful project management completion. The necessary requirement for project completion is to gather all the resources so that work can be accomplished in a proper manner.
Scope
The scope of the project is very wide as it includes relocating the office space to Camden. This place is selected by the project manager as it is beneficial for the company (Kocakaya, 2019). The major benefit of relocating to this place is that it will reduce the operational and logistic expenses of the company.
WBS
The WBS is a work breakdown structure the one which includes breaking all the steps into smaller aspects so that work can be managed in a proper and effective way. WBS provides a structure that how the work needs to be managed so that all the objectives of the study are attained (Kerzner, 2022). It outlines the division of activities that which step is taking place after which step.
Schedule
A schedule is defined as the list of activities which need to be delivered through the project. There are many different types of the activities that need to perform and it is very crucial for the company to follow these steps. Thus, the schedule includes a plan of action from a start date till finish date and all these activities are performed as per the plan.
Budget
The budget is defined as the estimated requirement of the finance within the completion of project. There are different types of the activities which include the use of money and it is very necessary for the company to ensure proper fund is allocated to each and every activity. The total budget for relocating the business is £20000. This budget is further divided among all the other activities of the business.
Management and control stage
The next stage come the management and control stage. Within this stage all the activities are controlled and effectively plant. This is the crucial stage as here everything is being managed and all the resources assembled together so that the work can be executed. For the effective monitoring of the project and its completion, the use of benchmarking technique is being implemented. Within this technique the work is being compared with some of the industry benchmark being set. This is particularly because of the reason that this comparison will help ABC Tech to analyse that where their performance is actually and in case it is not good then it will try to improve the working of the company well.
Executing stage
Executing stage is the one where in all the plant steps are being executed. There are many different ways of doing any task. Hence all the work is being executed in accordance to the plant work (Ju, Ferreira and Wang, 2020). Here all the efforts of the employees are made together and all the activities are executed in the intended manner to attain the objectives of the project.
Closing stage
The closing stage is the last stage where in all the activities are being executed and the project aim and objectives are attained well. This is the stage where in the project is being completed and is closed down and office premises is relocated (Carter, 2019). In this stage all the deliverables are attained and as a result of this the whole project comes to an end.
CONCLUSION
In the end it is concluded that project management is very essential in order to accomplish any of the project. The project management assist the project manager to complete the task by dividing it into different stages. First comes the initiation stage where in the project is being defined and all the objectives are being addressed. After that the role of a project manager was highlighted within the study. Furthermore, the initiation stage was analysed along with their requirement. After the initiation came the planning stage which included project requirement defining budget and many other different aspects. In the end the management and control stage was discussed along with the execution and closing stage.
RECOMMEDNATIONS
With the above discussion it is clear that for accomplishing the objectives it is very necessary for the company to have good control system. Thus, some of the recommendations for the company are as follows-
- The company must have effective research and development department. This is particularly necessary because a good research and development continuously works on improving the working by implementing the latest changes (Salvi and Kerkar, 2020). The research and development department continuously researchers within the external environment and all the relevant changes are being implemented within the company.
- In addition to this it is also recommended to the company that they must undertake the use of Agile methodology. The Agile methodology is recommended as it assists the company in breaking down the problem into smaller parts and this help in solving the issue effectively.
